Wii 2 – Next Generation Of Gaming

As most of you know, Nintendo recently released their latest console, the Wii U. It was supposed to be the next step in revolutionizing gaming by introducing HD graphics and a new controller. The problem is that with only 8 gigs of memory on it, no one can even install an HD texture pack for their favorite game without sacrificing huge chunks of their storage space. This wouldn’t be a problem, if the developer wasn’t already making games on the current gen consoles without sacrificing so much of their budget to do so. Now with these issues, Nintendo has now reportedly fired half of their engineers and are planning to abandon the console scene all together in favor of creating gaming devices for our cell phones.

Now what does this mean for you? Well, it means that the market is wide open for a new contender. Even though Microsoft has won our last two polls (and both by landslide victories), there is still no clear winner in the next gen race, and with Sony having to deal with their own ridiculous internal issues that will take them years to fix, there is no reason for us to not get behind the people who have always had our interests at heart.

What’s that, you say? Get behind the people who have always had our interests at heart? You mean… Nintendo? Yes! That’s right, Nintendo is looking to get back into the race by teaming up with Microsoft and Sony in an effort to create a console unlike any other.

The current ideas are to make it 6x as powerful as the Wii U, include exclusive game content on all versions of the game (similar to what Ubisoft did with last year’s Assassin’s Creed 3), all online components to be free of charge (until about 5 years in when they release an updated version), and also include built in support for streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. The only major issue that this team will have to overcome is the online support, with Microsoft and Sony seeing it as a potential revenue stream and Nintendo seeing it as free advertisement.

This project has been code named “Wii 2” for now until a better name can be decided on. The tentative release date for this console is Q4 of next year, but many are pushing for a holiday release. When asked about the console, Nintendo responded by saying “No comment”. We will keep you updated on this story as it continues to break!
