Americans Will Soon Need An $8 Visa For Travel To Europe

The European Union is considering a new visa for Americans and Canadians who want to travel to Europe. This has caused concern among American travelers, as the $8 fee will make it difficult for them to afford trips abroad.

The can u.s. permanent residents travel to europe is a question that has been asked many times before. Many Americans will soon need an $8 Visa for travel to Europe, but the situation is not yet clear.

Americans will soon be required to get a $8 visa in order to go to Europe.

on August 8, 2021 by Gary Leff

I’ve been writing about Europe’s proposal to require Americans to get a de facto visa for travel beginning in 2021 for the last three years. By the end of 2022, it is anticipated to happen. In fact, back in 2016, I predicted it would happen.

Europeans must apply for an ESTA, or electronic travel authorization, in advance in the United States. The US government argues that this is not a visa (it only applies to nations that have a visa waiver). That’s a bit of a ruse. Because an in-person interview is not needed, it is basically a three-year accelerated visa.

As a result, Schengen Europe will need Americans to get an ETIAS (“European Travel Information and Authorization System”), a $7 electronic travel authorization. Americans will apply online and pay 7 euros in advance for authorization, which will be good for three years. Just don’t refer to it as a visa!

This includes travel to the Schengen Area, which includes Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The ultimate approval of the program required an unusual coalition of political forces:

  • Anti-immigrant sentiment is on the rise in Europe, as is a push to shut the continent’s borders. This allows European governments to regulate not just who enters their nations, but also who is allowed to board aircraft bound for their countries.
  • Former President Trump’s resentment of alleged anti-immigrant attitudes in the United States prompted Europe to seek payback.

There are actually pro- and anti-immigrant political groups collaborating in some way to impose entry restrictions on European people (and others).

Of course, the tit-for-tat game isn’t finished yet. The US Secretary of Homeland Security said four years ago that he wants to reconsider allowing Europeans to travel to the US with “just” an ESTA. By the way, there has never been a single person murdered by a terrorist who entered the United States via the Visa Waiver Program.

In the end, fees and obstacles to travel, the movement of commodities and services, and human freedom are imposed. Most people believe the ETIAS procedure will be light on burdens, but we’ll have to wait and see how the technology works in reality, as well as the quality of the data utilized in decision-making.

Meanwhile, there are a number of fake websites claiming to provide information on the ETIAS procedure. This isn’t anything to be concerned about this year. Don’t apply for anything or give any money out just now.
